PRIME
Minister Dr Derek Sikua says Solomon Islands is benefiting
from its good image overseas after its relationship
outside was restored.
Speaking
during the Independence Anniversary celebration in
Honiara, he said now Solomon Islands has good connection
and understanding with the outside countries.
"In the areas of the national security and foreign
relations, our strained foreign relations with our
neighbours, both through RAMSI and at the bilateral level,
have been mended.
"We are now benefiting from our good image
internationally, based on open dialogue, mutual trust,
understanding and cooperation," he said.
Dr Sikua said foreign affairs is an important business for
his government to handle with due diligence.
"Last year and this year, the government worked very
hard at the United Nations.
"With RAMSI, we continue to elevate our relationship
to new heights," he said.
He also acknowledged that government and RAMSI have
recently signed the Partnership Framework, identifying
objectives, common areas and activities that both parties
will work together in.
"RAMSI review by has been concluded.
"The parliamentary process is expected to take heed
of the views of ordinary Solomon Islanders, in redirecting
RAMSI activities and programs for the benefit of both
parties.
"We believe these to be the appropriate approaches to
handling of relationship in the most diplomatic manner for
the benefit of both parties," the prime minister
